Exercising is indispensible and should be done regularly to keep your body and mind attentive and active as every healthy body houses a healthy brain. You can also brush up your memory by actively taking part in different games and brain teasers to keep the brain alert. An easy memory game, “Memory” can be played with a deck of playing cards. This game can be played with as many as four people or less as playing all alone. All you need to do is spreading of cards evenly on the surface, and then lift a card to match the characters. When the characters don’t match, keep the card from where it was taken and wait for a few chances till a match is appropriate remembering where the previous card was kept among all the other cards of the deck. Person matching more number of cards wins. ‘Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.’

Mahatma Gandhi

People who achieve great things, have great focus. Their focus literally burns through everything else. When this type of focus, thought, word and deed come into harmony, there can be little doubt about the outcome.

For most of us, our mind flits. It flits from our desire, to a bunch of reasons why we can’t have the desire and then onto a load of stuff we have to handle right away. Our thoughts then drift towards things that stop us having our desire then become little more than a distant wish.

How to Bring Your Dreams Closer

A while ago I took part in an experiment. A group of six wrote down their desires. Then they followed a routine that took around twenty to thirty minutes a day. Of the group four people achieved major outcomes. Two met their ideal mate and have been together ever since, one won a major contract for his business and another picked up two clients. The other two… well they fell by the wayside.

This means that 66% of the people who took part had success that improved the quality of their life. And this happened in ten days, with twenty to thirty minutes focus!

If you could have a 66% chance to increase your happiness in one area of your life, in ten days, or just 200-300 minutes, would you go for it?

I would. You see although our mind flits through over sixty two thousand thought impulses a day, only about four thousand of those are positive. The other fifty eight thousand are negative. This is why we mostly have the feeling of going nowhere fast.

Where is the great power?

The four thousand positive thoughts have massive power and if you can increase this number, just a little, on a consistent basis, miraculous things can begin to happen.

So I want you to join me, for ten days, for 20-30 minutes each day, from the comfort of your own home. I want you to get focused on one thing you want to have happen.

Here are the steps:

1. Imagine this event or thing occurring now. See it, add colour too it, add sound – what is being said? What other noises can you hear? How good do you feel? What emotions are welling up/

2. Write an affirmation and say it 20 times a day. Affirmations must be in the current moment and positive. One I use for my health and fitness is ’I am slim and toned. I eat only food that provides me with life and vitality and I exercise for extra energy.’ I lost 19lbs in 19 weeks while focussing on this and doing what it said!

3. Write yourself an action plan and take steps (large or small depending on what you want and when – just get consistent and take daily actions).

4. Become aware what actions are working for you and what are not. Notice when your enthusiasm dwindles. What can you do to change things and make it better?

5. Keep doing step 4 until you get the results you want.

Best

Neil

Adult ADD: Memory Blues?

By Tellman Knudson And Stephanie Frank

If you have adult ADD, your memory may tend to be faulty. Your brain may tend to be real creative, and so sometimes you’ll be so lost in your own thoughts and have no memory of things that happen to you. No memory of things that people said, no memory of things that people did, no memory of places that you’ve even gone to visit when people are referencing it, until they mention just the right thing.

Does this embarrass you? Don’t let it! Realize the problem. You may be busy looking toward the future and so, you may not need to spend time looking back.

That’s a personal choice, of course, and it’s a way of dealing with your ADD. And you have to realize that if your brain is spinning at the speed of light, paying attention to many things all at the same time, some of that stuff just isn’t going to stick.

So if you are an ADDer who has memory and recall problems, there are two things that you can do. The first thing is be okay with it. The second thing is, you can learn specific techniques in order to help yourself improve, enhance, increase your ability to remember the things you wish to remember.

Tellman took a course, that came from an infomercial on TV, called Mega Memory by Kevin Trudell.

He saw it as an awesome course, and it helped him to remember his grocery list, to start remembering names and faces, to start remembering dates, facts–anything he wanted to remember, where remembering was actually important.

Mega Memory uses an awesome system of pictures and body anchoring, but it really goes much deeper. Taking the course was a conscious choice for Tellman, and after he made the choice to improve his memory, it actually got better than the memories of many of the people he knows.

He has to consistently apply the techniques he learned, though. When he doesn’t, his memory goes back to normal and his brain flies off in many directions at onces, and his ability to remember important things just goes away.

So what’s the big deal? I don’t know. If you make a lot of money, and are very successful, if you have a very happy life, are in great shape, and your memory stinks, is that such a bad thing?

Here’s the thing: There are certain things that it’s really important to remember, and then there are certain things that other people think it’s important for you to remember. And you gotta understand the distinction about that.

Appointments and grocery lists are important, and so is where you’re going when you leave the house. You need to be especially responsible when other people are depending on you, like when you make an appointment and someone expects you to be there.

That’s just polite and good business. Always write appointments down. Never trust yourself to remember things like that.

It’s important when you go shopping, too. Maybe you can retain about three or four things, but if your mind goes off in another direction, you may not even recall such a short list. That means you’ll be going back out the next day to get what you didn’t the day before, wasting time, wasting gas, ultimately wasting money. So, before leaving your house, write what you’re going out to get down. Then, you needn’t worry about remembering or making unnecessary trips back to the store.

It’s really important that you make extensive use of notes for the important things.

We never rely on our memories for anything—ever. We write everything down in our daily planners or calendars and we use those to remind us of what we need to do, where we have to pick up, etc. It doesn’t hurt to surround yourself with linear-thinking people, either, who can remind you to do things. Make it their job, whether they’re friends, family, or employees. That works out well. There’s not a thing wrong in doing that.

And again, if you need to improve your memory to get better grades, if you need to improve your memory in a certain aspect of your business, just go out and take a course on how to improve your memory and presto change-o, you’ll be able to use it.

Second Language Acquisition Strategies

Second language learning or second language acquisition refers to the process of learning a second language besides the native language. Thus when people are in the quest of learning a new language besides their native language, it is called second language acquisition.

There are various second language acquisition strategies that have been developed by language experts and the success of a language learning process depends on the effective use of these strategies. The second language acquisition strategies have been divided into the two categories; communicative strategies and learning strategies, however there are various other ways to categorize the strategies.

Learning strategies: these strategies are techniques that are used to improve or enhance the learning of a language by using mnemonics or a dictionary. Mnemonics is the way of learning things by associating them with pictures or objects that can be remembered. A dictionary can be used to find meaning and pronunciation of new words of the new language.

Communicative strategies: communicative strategies are those strategies that are used by native speakers or learners to communicate or get the meaning across when they are unsure of the correct word usage. Non-linguistic means like Mimes is an example of the communicative technique.

It has been observed that in the process of second language acquisition, learners coming from diverse cultures use different strategies in different ways. This difference is also seen in the approach of male and female learners. If we go by the study reports, females are adept at using the learning strategies more intensively than males. Also, statistically females enjoy better language learning skills than males.

Second language acquisition strategies are steps that are used by learners to improve their acquisition, storage, retention, recall and using of the new gained information. Different people have different ways of assessing strategies like maintaining diaries, thinking aloud, doing surveys and by observations.

Second language acquisition strategies that are used by language learners are:

Meta-cognitive techniques that are effective in focusing, organizing and evaluating what has been learnt Affective strategies that can be used to handle attitudes and emotions Social strategies which are helpful in cooperating with others in the process of learning Cognitive strategies that are used to link the new information to the present scene of things and for their analysis and classification Memory strategies that are used to enter new information into the memory and later retrieving it as and when required Compensation strategies which are gesture or guessing strategies that are effective in overcoming deficiencies or gaps in the language knowledge.

Thus these are the effective second language acquisition strategies and these accompanied with the learning styles are the prerequisites of an influencing performance while learning a second language. The role and the effectiveness of these styles and strategies need more investigation, but one thing is very important at this stage and that is the usage of these strategies by teachers through appropriate teacher training. Teachers should be able to design instructions or preferences as per the requirements of individual students as this can help the students in improving their second language acquisition.
