Why you should Improve Concentration and Memory Together

First lets look at what concentration and memory are individually. Concentration is when you direct your mental power towards a specific task or activity.Memory is the ability to recall past experiences info and personal relationships. In reality improving your concentration and improving your memory go hand-in-hand together. To improve one without the other makes no sense at all. If you improve your memory on its own, your results will be far lower and improvement far slower, than if you worked on your concentration and memory together.

I would like to show you to five easy steps to improving your concentration and memory.

Step one:
Be stress free and relaxed. You’ll find it far easier to concentrate and improve your memory in a relaxed state of mind. Try taking a couple deep breaths put on some relaxing music and forget about all your days tasks and worries. Only in a relaxed state of mind can we truly start to work on improving concentration and memory.

Step two:
Remember! To improve your concentration and memory you should be challenging yourself. Challenging yourself should also be fun. One of the keys to boosting brainpower is actually having fun. Science has now proven that laughter and fun activities enhance your learning ability greatly.

So put yourself in challenging situations. But keep in mind that improving your memory and concentration is supposed to be fun. So the next time you pick up a crossword puzzle and your starting to get frustrated, take a couple deep breaths and remember this is supposed to be fun. One of the best ways I find to improving my memory and concentration is to watch a comedy movie. Then after the movie I like to recall all the funniest moments. Sharing these moments with friends brings laughter to the table. It’s easy fun and a great way to boost my memory and concentration skills.

Step three:
Learn a new language. Learning a new language stimulates different parts of the brain and has now been proven to actually grow new neural pathways and tissues. This growth and development of the brain is called neuronal plasticity. Learning a new language brings a whole field of new challenges to the table. We are taken out of our comfort zone and into a new line of communication. Amazingly as many people say to start a new language can be quite difficult. But as time goes on your improvement rate increases at a faster rate. The size of your brain expands and creates new memory folders for your new language and the bigger it gets the faster it learns.

Step four:
Engage in exercises and activities that use the tips of your fingers. One of the best ways to do this is to learn a musical instrument. By using the tips of your fingers your brain is sending signals from the brain to the ends of your fingers giving your brain a mental workout. Your coordination will improve, concentration will improve and therefore your memory will to. Learning a musical instrument can be very rewarding and to some a lucrative trade.

Step five:
Be social. In a social environment our brains work overtime. The best way to increase concentration and memory is to be engaged in conversation you’re having. Too many times people find themselves in a social environment and just plain daydreaming. Be aware of the person you’re talking to, engage with them, reply to the conversation. By just being aware and engaging in the conversation, you will improve your memory and concentration. You’ll also have far stronger relationship with the people you converse with. Too many times people blame a bad memory on an actual lack of concentration.

So remember if you’re trying to improve your memory it is vital that you work on your concentration techniques at the same time. The two go hand in hand like peas in a pod!

Your main task is to reduce them down to simplistic groups.  In such a way, you increase your chances to remember them. In this case you have no need to remember long difficult names like “King of Hearts” or “Seven of Spades”. Counting experts usually divide cards into their numeric forms, with the first letter of their suit.  Now if you have the Five of Diamonds, you’d remember it as 5D.  The Ace of Clubs will be registered as 1C and Two of Hearts like 2H.

Imagine a Filing Cabinet. Now create a picture of a file cabinet in your mind and put every remembered combination there.  It will help you to remember what card has been already used – and what are still available!

Get in Plenty of Practice! At first it may seem rather difficult, so you’d better practice more and more in order to improve your mastering. You may appeal to your friend’s help or play blackjack online before going to land-based casino. Your task is remember what cards are left and find out what cards are more likely to appear next.

Learn More About Probability. Can We Teach Our Brains To Think Differently?

Do you find this title a little bit weird? You do?

I need to confess something: The title sounds unusual, but technically it is correct. We do teach our brains to think differently and properly throughout the whole of our lives. We learn how to control impulses and how to motivate ourselves, which basically means we teach the brain how to react.

Emotional lessons can be taught, and they shape our emotional intelligence.

Let me explain everything step by step.

When we learn something from our parents, teachers or peers, we remember it, which is good.

What if we learn something that is not good for us, like a negative way of thinking or an inappropriate reaction to life events? Sooner or later we come to understand that this is not a good way to live, and we decide to change it.

What the therapy or new teaching does is apply a new process for our brain to follow. We teach our brain how to change, control or inhibit our previous learning.

Basically, we use our brain to teach our brain how to think differently!

It took millions of years in human evolution to develop the so-called thinking brain or neocortex.

At the beginning of human evolution, we had just the brainstem, our primitive brain. This “brain” regulated only the basic life functions, like metabolism and breathing.

From the brainstem emerged the emotional brain and, many millions of years later in evolution, the thinking brain.

We have two brains: rational and emotional. We have two minds (rational and emotional), two memory systems (one for rational facts and one for emotional facts), and two kinds of intelligence (rational and emotional).

 

At best, there is a balance between the emotional and rational minds. If the balance tips, we are more or less in trouble!

Now we know why we sometimes react emotionally rather than rationally: What came first during the evolution of the brain reacts first! First we had emotions, and then we had thinking. The thinking brain grew from the emotional one.

Therefore we need to teach our thinking brain (the neocortex) how to inhibit our amygdala (the part of the limbic system that plays a role in emotional behaviour).

Let’s make it simple: Usually, it’s better to think first, and to feel later. Whenever we need to make a decision, we need to use our thinking brain first, not our emotional brain. This is the ideal way of reacting.

French essayist and moralist Jean de La Bruyèr tells us, “Life is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.”

As the title of this article, I ask the question: Can we teach our brains to think differently?

The answer: Yes, we can, because the human brain has plasticity, meaning it is dynamic and continues to be shaped and to develop. Keeping the intellect active helps us to build a brain capable of handling different tasks.

Studies show that people continue to operate at a high level of function throughout their lives only if they literally train their brains.

Older adults can improve their brain function with the correct training. Certain mental exercises can partially offset the expected decline in older adults’ thinking skills. Teaching our brains to operate differently is actually a mental activity that keeps those brains in good shape. The human brain is like any other muscle: we “use it or lose it”.

Keeping our brains healthy requires more than just mental stimulation. Scientists now know more about the brain and the many things we can do to keep it healthy and sharp.

The brain’s cells (neurons) can be shaped, and increase in number when we expose ourselves to new environments.

If we want to keep our brains in good condition, we need to pay attention also to our stress levels. The human brain is very sensitive to chronic stress. Such stress has a negative effect on memory and potentially induces damage to the brain.

Our lifestyles determine our brain health.

There are many simple things we can do on a regular basis to positively affect our brains. Think about it!
