Brain Vitamins

Scientists at Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, California, have recently begun studying whether there is substantial biological evidence behavioral or persuasive that links vitamin D deficiency to brain dysfunction. The study found that biological evidence that demonstrates a significant role for vitamin D in brain development and function. Supplementation for groups that are chronically low vitamin D has been found to be extremely beneficial. Vitamin D is involved in brain function through its wide distribution of vitamin D receptors throughout the brain.

Vitamin D affects the proteins in the brain that are known to be involved directly with learning, memory, motor control, and possibly even maternal and social behavior. Research has shown that supplementation is beneficial for groups whose vitamin D status is extremely low, especially in infants, the elderly, and African Americans, but the need for further study has been established. The authors say that supplements of vitamin D is necessary for those groups who are at risk.

Increased levels of vitamin D protect the body against osteoporosis, cancer and multiple sclerosis. There is now evidence to suggest that vitamin D may help protect against potentially dangerous increase in blood pressure that occurs in some people as they age. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition researchers had found that up to 60 percent of whites and more than 90 percent of blacks who participated in the third National Health and Examination Nutrition survey were insufficient levels of vitamin D.

The researchers also investigated the association between vitamin D, blood pressure and age. This research found that people with lower levels of vitamin D had significantly higher increases in systolic blood pressure as they age than people who had healthy levels. In fact, the age of blood pressure elevation proved to be a 20 percent lower in those who had healthy levels of vitamin D, as opposed to those who are not. This suggests that vitamin D may play a role in the development of high pressure pressure.

Many other studies have suggested that there is a role for vitamin D in reducing blood pressure. According to Vin Tangpricha MD, PhD., A Professor medical assistant in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Lipids at Emory University School of Medicine, there is no evidence that vitamin D prevents hypertension available, however, because vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in the United States, may be a good idea to take a vitamin D supplement solely because of the strong evidence on vitamin D s ability to prevent osteoporotic fractures. It was noted that further studies are needed to determine the vitamin D s effect on the pressure pressure.

Also, determine if giving all patients vitamin D will help lower blood pressure. People with family history of other risk factors associated with high blood pressure, such as being over sixty-five, should have their blood pressure regularly. Make sure for more studies and information on the effects of vitamin D supplementation in black and white people in the United States to help fight vitamin D deficiency.
