    Introduction

    Chances are you’ve seen the acronym ‘ABA’ and probably know it stands for:

    Applied Behavioral Analysis. You may also know it’s an effective and

    recommended treatment for children with autism, and that’s why you’ve decided

    Chapter One: A Brief Overview of ABA

    Applied Behavioral Analysis is a comprehensive, scientific theory used in many

    situations unrelated to autism. Its history dates back to 1938 when BF Skinner

    published his book about operant science and the analysis of behavior, titled,

    The Behavior of Organisms. He introduced the building block of behavior

    analysis, known as A-B-C; the three-term contingency, representing Antecedent,

    Behavior and Consequence. The A-B-C sequence is used to demonstrate

    learning takes place based on the consequence of behavior, and asserts the

    antecedent can alter future behaviors.

    ABA uses the principles of scientific inquiry to assess behavior, and then applies

    those findings to meet a specified goal. The scientific principles used to asses

    and change human behaviors are observation, replication and evaluation based

    on objective measures.

    Jason M. Wallin is an experienced lecturer and ABA educator. Referencing the

    1967 publication of Baer, Wolf, and Risely, he lists these seven criteria, on his

    web-site, as the essential elements of an ABA-based program:

    While the symptoms of autism can vary widely, the parents of an autistic child tend to know when something isn’t quite right. So it takes testing and an expert diagnosis to verify if someone is autistic or has another developmental disability that may have similar symptoms.     Most people understand what is meant by a “tantrum,” and one common occurrence in young autistic children is to display them for seemingly no reason at all. Naturally, sometimes children can seem to do this and they’re not autistic, so there does need to be some care involved with this.

    That possible symptom and others may warrant talking to your doctor and proceeding from there. Many autistic children, however, will become upset or even hysterical, while parents or teachers cannot understand what has caused this outburst. The autistic response is complex because their view of the environment is not the same. When such behavior is destructive to the child, surrounding objects or other people, medication is sometimes used to prevent such acting out.

    It can become apparent at an early age, if your child is autistic, that they find it difficult to socialize normally. A generally aloof manner, refusal to make eye contact, and a preference to play alone are symptoms of autism. They will tend to communicate through gestures and will have difficulty telling others what they need or want. It can get very difficult for autistic children because they are often the subject of teasing or bullying in the classroom. Autistic children are usually placed in special education classes or institutions that specialize in autism for this reason combined with their difficulty learning in the same way as other children.  It will be like a cruise to Norway.

    Autistic kids do not like change they prefer a set routine. Most of their routines are self developed such as how they stand or move. They will become agitated with any change in routines. Treatment of autism, therefore, must take into account that autistic people have a very low tolerance of change and are most comfortable when they can remain in familiar circumstances.

    Understanding this condition is difficult even for medical experts and scientists because it presents in so many forms and varieties. No one even agrees about the causes of autism, which are probably varied. This article has only touched on a couple of the most common symptoms. Specialized treatment plans are most often required for meeting the needs of an autistic child.

    Agenesis of the corpus callosum and Asperger Syndrome Autism /?

    I have this rare neurological disease called Agenisis the corpus callosum. Lately I've been reading on Asperger Syndrome and seeing that I have a lot of similarities I share with a lot of Aspies. I have a photographic memory rather exceptional, and can regurgitate a lot of facts I've read. Kim Peek also learned that one of the most famous people with ACC was the inspiration for "Rain Man" a film about autism and not ACC. Some additional details I am a 32 years old. Although I look physically normal CAC and have no physical difficulty, but a few tense facial expressions from time to time. I dated and had sex in the past but have had trouble keeping steady. I have difficulty reading body language and such. When I was young, he was also very afraid of loud noises and also did a lot of hand flapping when excited or when engaged in play.

    You may be Aspie. My cousin is, and is very knowledgeable about very specific, and has great difficulties in social situations. You have symptoms / Aspie characteristics that could be considered. However, I think I might be reading a little too closely: You have a neurological condition. Many such conditions mimic autism spectrum conditions, but that is not enough. Could it be that these traits are considered outside of outbreaks of disease and Asperger's not true. Anyway, you may read more about this than any of the people here … … I have no neurological condition, but once thought to be due Aspie my lack of eye contact, my bs marked social deficits in an IQ test he took, and my speech patterns. While it was felt ultimately bipolar it is true that anxiety was causing these problems …. Still, I think your question is more "could I be?" instead of "I can heal?" Duh, but you should talk to your neurologist. It is a good time to be in the spectrum, with available all text communication … :)

After 98 sessions of neurofeedback therapy, his parents were thrilled to observe several positive changes. His medications were cut in half, his speech patterns slowed down and became easier to understand, and his memorized speech gave way to some original thoughts and ideas. They saw significant improvement in his gross motor skills and balance. He became more stable emotionally, and he even began initiating touch and asking for hugs.     Neurofeedback is a method of training the brain to function differently. During the sessions, the therapist will attach very thin leads that conduct and transmit the electrical energy from the brain to various locations on the patient’s scalp. Young With Autism
