New Mnemonic Devices

New Mnemonic Devices
What mnemonic device can I use for gathering isolated facts & info throughout the day? A mental junk drawer?

I have learned how to use different mnemonic devices for remembering things, such as linking, method of loci, acronyms,
etc. Well, what should I use for remembering information that I am presented with throughout the day? The information that you encounter in the real world is obviously very rarely well organized and outlined.

For example: Maybe I’m reading a magazine and I notice a few bits of information that I’d like to remember. Then I talk to someone and learn something new from them. Then I hear something on the news that I want to remember. Then I observe something that I’m seeing. Then I read something in the newspaper and so on and so forth.

Is there a mnemonic device (possibly the method of loci) that could be used as a sort of “junk drawer” for the mind, where I can place interesting bits of unrelated info and then sort it out later? I need some method to rapidly store information that I encounter throughout the day when I’m not immediately sure where to file it.

The methods you’ve mentioned are all applicable. It’s just a case of defining what approach works best for you. Dominic O’Brien (World Memory Champion over a couple of years) would no doubt suggest on his journeys. It’s a loci method – but one specifically defined for ‘things to remember for later.’ then have another for ‘Facts I need to recall.’ It’s a question of using some creativing thinking in conjunction with the mechanics of mnemonics to find what works for you.
I recall reading Harry Lorayne many years back and he provided a number of examples of reading through a magazine and being able to talk about the stories on each page. Application of his own techniques similar to the above.
