Memory Loss Causes Young
Are there any long term symptoms of severe lack of sleep?
For the whole past year every night I only got about 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night and I’m young and usually don’t do so well on low amounts of sleep. I’ve been having a lot of mental issues such as dizziness, loss of memory, lack of concentration, etc. It sort of feels like I’m in another world all the time. I’ve been getting more sleep recently, and things are a bit better i suppose, but I still can’t say whether or not lack of sleep has been the cause of my problems, and I’m not sure if my problems will even go away with sleep. I don’t know, just need some feedback ..Thanks!!
Dear Jen,
It is certainly possible that your symptoms are related to sleep deprivation. Each of us is unique in our need for sleep and just because you are young doesn’t necessarily mean you need less.
Sometimes we have to take a look at what is getting in the way of sleep. That can be too heavy a schedule, too many demands on our time, too many worries, etc.
There are other causes that should be ruled out, though. Anxiety, depression, and a variety of other mental and physical problems can also cause the symptoms you describe.
Do you or others put a lot of pressure on you to be, do, think, feel ?
Are you trying to accomplish something that you have no control over? (changing the thoughts or behavior of someone else?)
It never hurts to talk to your Health Care Provider. Often the answer can be a simple change in routine. Rest and sleep, physical activity, good nutrition and minimizing stress go a long way to maintaining mental health.
Be sure to take some time to care for yourself.
