HOW is alzheimer’s linked to our loss of memory?
I’m doing a 10th-grade biology project where I am supposed to link how alzheimer’s exactly makes us lose our memory, and why. I’m mainly looking for some REALLY good websites that I can find. (If you direct me to wikipedia, I swear I will report you. J/K!!! but please no wikipedia.) And if there are any doctors reading that know exactly what they’re talking about, that would be really helpful as well.
First of all, Alzheimer’s is not 100% diagnosiable until a coroner or examiner can look at the brain of a deceased person – in order to know what’s really going on, a physical examination has to be done on the brainmatter to see if a person has neurofibrillary tangles (which are basically tangled masses of neurons).
When this happen, certain neuro receptors are affected in such a way that causes memory loss; since scientists have a limited idea as to which receptors and which neurons are affected and perform certain tasks in certain ways, it can be really difficult to tell. Suffice it to say that specific receptors linked to memory are the ones that are affected the most, causing people to forget where they put things, what they were doing, even where they are!
