How can I get the right Meds for my chronic neck pain?
They always want me to try aspirin, phy therapy, dermal injections and lots of 1500.00 MRI’s. No real help. None of this expensive therapy has worked. Where can I get a Dr. that understands muscle memory, RSD, Repetit Strain Disorder etc…. They act like I faking it to get meds. Please HELP, MPLS. MN Noran Clinic is a scam.
Consider going to an actual pain clinic. The American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM) link is below. They have a link to find a doctor. Go with the specialty of anesthesiologist, then your state. The doctors are generally anesthesiologists, in the pain clinics I’ve gone to.
Next call their office and find out if they do opioid and narcotic pain therapy. If yes, thank them and hang up. Don’t give your name. Call back several days later and make an appointment.
Don’t go in there demanding drugs, that’s usually considered drug seeking behavior. You’ll have lots of forms to fill out and the doctors will ask you lots of questions. Be honest with your pain levels and what helps and what makes it worse.
Then be patient. I doubt you’ll be given strong drugs, until other options are exhausted. There are many ways they can treat pain and I urge you to try anything you haven’t already tried.
You may or may not be given a chance to try the Fentanyl Pain Patch, Morphine, Methadone, etc. If you do, be prepared to be drug tested randomly to be sure you’re not using street drugs or over-dosing yourself. You’ll sign a narcotic contract and be strictly monitored. There are side effects to every medication. Be an informed patient, no matter what course of therapy you take.
You may have a long road ahead of you, so be patient and be informed. I hope you can find some relief with a good pain doctor. My experience has been that the vast majority of doctors are very ignorant in treating chronic and severe pain.
The pain specialist is educated in treating pain. I’d make sure yours is a member of the AAPM.
