Improving Concentration Drugs
Drugs used to treat ADHD – Questions Parents should Crucial
One of the most common medications for treating ADHD in children and adults in various forms of amphetamines. What to Concerta, Ritalin, Adderall and Dexadrine all have in common? They are all amphetamines. What are the risks and long-term effects of these drugs used to treat ADHD? This is the first question any parent who shall request.
As for long-term effects, no one is quite sure. Even the pharmaceutical companies that make them, since they do not seem to have spent much money on research. Certainly there is not much literature is the use of medications for ADHD, but all positive reports. Some sites say they have studied the effects of long term only nearly two years yet the drugs have been in business for almost forty years, such as Ritalin, for example. This means, therefore, that we could give our children a drug that will compromise their brain development in the long term. The brain continues to develop until the child becomes an adult of twenty-five years of age.
Parents crucial second question asked is whether side effects will interfere with the child's development. The sad truth is that while amphetamines give some relief of symptoms and help improve concentration and impulsivity, interference with child development is not known. The FDA is not aware on prolonged use so there must be problems that we do not mean. Apart from that, the range of side effects can range from mild to downright disgusting. I know of some children you really have to take up to eight pills a day to reduce side effects and all these eight pills have their own side effects. One of the alarming effects the use of drugs to treat ADHD is a stunted growth. Side effects of medications used to treat ADHD can vary from nausea, vomiting, heart rate irregular, sleep problems, blinking and tics. That's not the way to treat a mental disorder, in my humble opinion.
One of the major side effect of these drugs used to treat ADHD is that the appetite is mainly affected. Usually means a very limited appetite for the child begins to lose weight. Be a girl who lost so much weight that had to be put on a different drug. Others have problems sleeping and have to take a sleeping pill. Also there are reports of hallucinations that here the children are upset by insects or snakes crawling over them and suicidal thoughts.
Now Parents are seeking alternatives and the reports of parents with homeopathic remedies to treat ADHD in stark contrast with parents who are flooding the forums ADHD on the Internet with stories haunted by the unpleasant side effects of conventional drugs used to treat ADHD. Homeopathic remedies are rejected by the medical community in general, but are much more effective and safer medications for ADHD that can ruin a childhood.
