How To Remember Names And Faces

Memory issues! Having trouble remembering sequence of life events!?
I have a great memory for songs, speeches etc. as I am an actor. I can learn new songs quickly and remember songs from my childhood. I’m great with faces…and remember names of kids from primary school. What I can’t seem to do is categorise major events in my life as an adult. I know what year I left school and things like that, but can’t remember when ‘I had that really bad bout of flu’ however many years ago or which job I had in 2004 or how long I stayed in it. When I go to the doctor and they say when did you have your last check up, I don’t know. I was on anti depressants for a while and feel like that could have made me cloudy. I can’t remember a lot of things my friends remember about me or what year I lived with one of my friends. It is very frustrating. My mother has taken to helping me write down what year I did what in. This doesn’;t seem normal to me that I have so much trouble remembering these types of things, especially when I do so well with my acting etc. insights?
It seems that your short term memory is fine but your long term memory is not functioning at its highest level.
I would agree that psychotropic medicine could cloud your perception of past events.
It doesn’t sound like you are attempting to suppress or repress any past experiences. You just can’t remember them as well as most do.
In addition, I would attempt to do some self analysis and try to determine what thought processes are dominating both your waking and dream states. You may be utilizing most of your brain’s energy to ruminate about the effects of past events on your psyche, but, in that process, you are losing time sequence information.
And, anyway, it is more important to live completely in the present rather than continually ruminating about the past. In most cases, the time and sequence of events are really unimportant to your overall mental health.
I suggest that you need not obsess about this problem that much. It doesn’t sound like its that big of a deal.
