Brain Training Challenge
I have a 10 week old Lab with a very clumsy body and a smart brain. She also has no sense of potty training.?
I fed Missy and waited for three hours outside for her to do her “thing” so I could tell her what a good girl she is. She was happy to pee (on the porch) a few times. Unfortunately she spent the rest of her three hours waiting for me to take her inside while I grabbed a soft drink. I turn my back to get the drink from the fridge and when I turn back she is proudly sitting beside the one thing I really didn’t want to clean up again. I’ve never had a big dog before and never considered the challenge of potty training a larger mess than my chihuahua’s. I know part of the problem is the lack of potty training the first eight weeks of her life. She was kept outside in a crate. Maybe she thinks the inside is the hot spot since she stays inside now. I don’t know. All ideas and help is appreciated. – thank you!
feed her then within twenty minutes take her outside. tell her wee wee outside when she does , good girl wee wee outside.
You can put paper down near to door as she peas on it move the paper nearer to the back door and eventually out. the dog then gets the message wee outside. take out often until she is trained.
another way is when walking out on lead to take them on the side of the road. say wee wee on road. dog gets message its all repetition.
and praise when they do it in the right place.
If you also keep other dogs the new dog will pick it up quicker by going outside with them.Always carry a spare carrierbag in your pocket, if she is dirty on the pavement its much easier to popyour hand inside the carrierbag and collect the phoo then turn the bag inside and tie in a knot put in nearest bin.
